the Second Sex

inkjet printed book/photography

the second sex is a redesign of Simone de Beauvoir's iconic work of the same name. this piece demonstrates the french fold technique and was made from scratch. the artist is responsible for all the photography in the book.

the section on childhood is shown here.  upon reading this section and others in the original text, the artist noted that the subject of feminism often takes on negative stigma and the author calls upon the shame that a woman feels during early childhood. although we now live in a world that is beginning to embrace gender differences, the artist seeks to emulate those ongoing imbalances through her photography subjects, font choices and general design. all human subjects are the artist's family.
